John Mathis - Medical Reg

(19??-2007)

The San Antonio Chapter of the 36th ID Association is mourning the death of one of our very active members and 36th veteran. John Mathis attended each meeting every month, and gave us updates on the military bases in town. He was also the person who organized and took care of the details for our Christmas Party each year, which was a wonderful event for all of our families. He was a treasured veteran and member of our Chapter, and his death was such a shock, as he was in excellent health.

John Mathis, Col, Ret, USA died on April 29, 2007. He entered military service Dec 4, 1939 as a medic with the 36th Infantry Division, Texas National Guard. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in May 1943 and was retired from the Army Medical Dept. Sept 1969.

His volunteer work and lecturer at local Universities is something for all of us to admire. He was a very busy retired person, and a most dedicated Tpatcher.

The 36th ID Association has lost an incredible man, and we honor him and are most grateful for having him in our lives. We are fortunate to have spent a lot of time with a most honorable veteran.
